Burt Rutan, founder and CTO of Scaled Composites, is something of an overachiever. Not content with being the first to build an aircraft that can circle the world on one tank of gas, he went on to build the first privately funded spacecraft, as defined by the Ansari X Prize goal of reaching 100 kilometers in altitude, which SpaceShipOne achieved on June 21, 2004.

Naturally, he's gotten some attention for this from some pretty big players, and is now working with a new division of Richard Branson's Virgin empire to build SpaceShipTwo and start the world's first space tourism business. The Guinness Book of World Records might need a whole chapter for this guy.
