European Space Agency

The European Space Agency (ESA) is an intergovernmental organization dedicated to the exploration of space, currently with 18 member states from the European Union. France, Germany, and Italy are the largest financial contributors to the space agency, but other countries like Ireland and Portugal contribute as well.
ESA in its current form was founded in 1975, when the European Space Research Organization was merged with the European Launch Development Organization. ESA had 10 founding members: Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
