Born in Britain, Jane Poynter was one of the eight "biospherians" who spent two years (1991-1993) inside the closed Biosphere 2 ecosystem experiment facility north of Tucson, Arizona. While there, she and a fellow boispherian, Taber MacCallum, conceived and co-founded a company called Paragon Space Development Corporation, a tricky thing to manage from inside a big glass box from which not even air could escape. Paragon's subsequent success in a number of fields suggests the idea was not entirely the result of oxygen deprivation. Poynter is the President and Chairwoman of the company, which is based in Tucson. She's also the author of a book about her Biosphere 2 experience, as well as two blogs and an "Ask Jane" column, all on environmental topics. Somehow, she also finds time to host a recurring TV segment called "Going Green" on Tucson's local NBC news station.
