Tim Buzza

Tim Buzza, Vice President for Launch Operations at SpaceX, is a very cautious guy. Those who are concerned that SpaceX might cut corners on safety for the sake of profit should be somewhat reassured by the fact that, with his boss Elon Musk demanding they go forward with the second Falcon 1 launch despite a possible fuel leak, Buzza aborted the countdown anyway. The fuel leak turned out to be a computer glitch, and the rocket still crashed back to Earth when they launched it the next day, but it had almost reached orbit and it set the stage for later successes.

According to his bio on the SpaceX People page, Buzza was recruited from Boeing, where he was in charge of testing the first stage of the Delta IV rocket. He has a total of 14 years experience in the aerospace industry, most of it apparently related to testing hardware ranging from airplanes to rockets, which explains his sensitivity to the various ways things can go wrong during a launch. No photos of him are available online, but this Wired article describes him as "a small, tightly wound former college wrestler," which, oddly enough, is about what I would imagine just based on his name.
